Five things I've learnt in my Twenty years. Part three.

So this is part three of my Five things I've learnt in my Twenty years. You can find part one here & part two here if you want to check them out.

11. Go with the flow!

Sounds a little hippy-ish! I like organising & writing lists , planning even, but sometimes you just have to forget all that & just let things happen. Do things on the spur of the moment - they are usually the most fun & are what you will remember!

12. Not everyone is like you.

Not everyone likes the same things! Certain things people hate, certain things people love! I met one of my very good friends at an old place of work, at first I thought I hated him. Basically I judged the book by it's cover & I was wrong to do so! Two years on we are still good friends.

13. Nothing is set in stone!

Things change, people change. The people I was friends with in school, I don't talk to very often & haven't seen in ages simply because we went different directions & changed. We don't really have that much in common anymore and are different people to who we were when we were 16/17.

14. Live in the moment.
I am a dreamer. I love thinking about how things will be in the future but sometimes you just have to forget about what's to come & just focus on what is going on right now & to focus on the now otherwise what's the point?!

15. If it makes you happy, go for it!

You only live once, people round about you might not agree with what you are doing or who you are seeing but if it or they make you happy. Why not! Happiness makes everything much easier & smoother.
My outfit post will be coming up tomorrow or Monday. Probably Monday as it is moving day tomorrow :D Oh and I completed two of my 100 things today - 98 to go! x

100 Things.

A few weeks ago I asked on Twitter whether I should do 'New Year' resolutions seen as it is a new academic year or if I should set myself monthly challenges. One of my lovely Twitter followers suggested the 101 things to do in 1001 days, I took that idea & altered it slightly.
I have created a list of 100 things that I want to do or want to achieve in the next year which can be found here. Some are more serious than others, some should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Hopefully, I will achieve at least 90 of them?! If you are doing something similar link me!
I mention Daily Booth in one of the 100 things, my user name on there is xexfx so come follow & join in!
I will have my Week in Outfits up possibly Sunday but maybe Monday.
Moving day is Sunday so we shall see. Hope you are all well & thanks for following x

Mirrors, Cushions & cups

As I mentioned before, I am moving into a flat this coming weekend & have been getting stuff together for my new room.

I had to wooden mirrors in my room at my parents so decided to give them a lick of white gloss paint to refresh them & to give them a sort of vintagey feel. I'm really happy with how they came out & they go perfectly with the chair I reupholstered & painted earlier in the summer.

I had some fabric leftover from the seat of the chair so my lovely mother made me two cushions for the back of the chair. When I was in the material shop (I love these shops!) I spotted some burnt orange fabric with black suede detail on it & had to get it, it is actually the colour I want my wedding flowers to be - loser, so I got three cushions out of that ofr my bed. I have white bedding so they will go perfectly. My mum did an amazing job of making the cushions covers, I am tres impressed.

Another thing my lovely mum bought for me is a new cup & saucer, I love cups & saucers! I really love & it goes perfectly with my lovely red roses bought for me by .... myself.

So that is a little update on what I have for my new room, I am so excited to get in & make it all nice. I will probably do a post on it when I have it just so if you would like to see that.

Hope you're all well x

My Week In Outfits.

This is a new 'feature' on FTF, I thought it would be more interesting to do all my weeks outfits in one post. It will be easier for me too when I got back to uni. Let me know if you like this idea, please.

I only have four outfits for this week as Monday I was painting so it was old joggies & a tshirt and the weekend was my work uniform & jammies, so not very exciting!

Wednesday .. Dress & leggings : Topshop .. Shoes : Dune .. Scarf : Accesorize

Thursday .. Tshirt : Gap Sale .. Shorts :: Emma Creation .. Belt : H&M .. Bag & Scarf : Oasis

My Fairytale.

I was browsing some blogs & came across ...love Indigo's post about her life sorted, she talked about how she would like her life to be. I thought I would do a simialr post about my 'fairytale' life.

I doubt this will happen but you have to dream!

I will live in Paris & for for walks along the River Seine...

I will marry a handsome french man with dark hair & delivate feautres. Possibly like Louis Jordan.

Or like Hugh Jackman (Swoon!)

We will maybe have children. Three boys named Max, George & Henry and a girl called Lily, Camilla or Claudia.

I will speak fluent french. We will spend our time reading novels, drinking champagne & haviing a very romantic life...

Okay my imagination has runaway every so slightly but this is my fairytale, have to live happily ever after!!

Tomorrow I will post My week in outfits so make sure & come back for that! Hope you are all well x

Five Things I've Learnt in my Twenty Years. Part Two.

Welcome to part two of the six week series of things I have learned in my twenty years on this planet. Part one can be found here.

6. Go into things with an open mind.

If you are going to go into something with a negative attitude then it will be a generally negative experience. I guess this relates to having a positive attitude.
Don't expect everything from entering a situation, take it as face value & make the most of it otherwise it will be a miserable experience.

7. Don't change for anyone.
No matter what, be yourself. Easier said than done sometimes but if you are yourself 100% of the time you will be so much happier. This relates to the group of 'friends' I mentioned in my first one of these posts I changed into someone that I wasn't, I wasn't being true to myself & wasn't a particularly nice person to be around looking back.
Stay true to who you are, at the end of the day you are the one that has to live with yourself so you may as well live with a happy self!
8. Take the good with the bad.
Not everyday is going to be a good day. Some days will just be pants! There will be days when everything goes wrong & you just want to cry but then there will be days when you will be very content.
This goes with situation as well, the girl I was best friends with at secondary school & I bickered a lot some days we were really close & everything was good other days we couldn't stand to be around one another. It wasn't because we didn't want to be friends we were just very similar & clashed heads on things.
9. Tell those that you love, that you love them!
Last June my Grandpa died, if I am being honest it still hasn't fully become true to me because he lived down the road & we saw him all the time. My one regret is not telling him how much he meant to me because he meant a huge amount to me & was a massive influence in my life! I'm sure he knew I loved him but I wish I had let him know just how much.
If you love someone, make sure they know it!

10. Some people aren't nice! (to be frank!)

Not everyone will be friendly or nice, that is just how they are. The naive sixteen year old in me thought that everyone was a nice person something which I quickly learned when entering retail. People will be rude, stuck up, arrogant - it is just how they are, unfortunate but you just have to brush it off!

Part three will be coming up next Saturday. I will be doing my week in outfits tomorrow or possibly Monday & I have another wee cheeky getting to know you post coming up x

Ruffles & sequins

I was going through my wardrobe yesterday & came across these blouses. I had completely forgotten about them, I bought the black one to wear to my 17th Birthday dinner & then I got the grey one as a present for my 17th from the parents.
I haven't worn them in years but I think they would be cute for a night out, bit different from what everyone else is wearing.
I'm thinking over a black dress or black vest & skirt with tights & heels.

I love the sequin & ruffle detail on the front of these, they have a sort of vintage feel about them which of course I love!
What is hidden in the back of your wardrobe? x

I NEED your thoughts... please

This will probably interest none of you & you are all probably thinking 'Eh, Emma sweetheart we really don't care' but I need peoples opinions.
I decided to try a no eyeliner eye today just a neutral shadow & some mascara - the picture isn't very good but it is on a web cam so my apologies. What I would like to know it your thoughts on this?
Do you think it looks nice, alright, a bit crap? Basically should I bring back the eye liner?
I would really appreciate your thoughts lovelies.
Also, I was thinking of making an outfit post like 'my week in clothes' instead of random outfit posts - I think it would be easier for when I'm back at uni & stuff. Lemme know what you think about that too.

Five things I've learnt in my 20 years. Part One.

I saw this post on Sometimes Sweet about five things she has learned in her 20s. Obviously I am only eight months into my 20s but I feel like in my 20 years I have learned a few things along the way. That said I think for the next six weeks every Saturday I will blog about five things I have learned in my 20 years.

I like reflecting & from doing this I have realised that between 17 and 20 I have learned a lot & changed as well which is inevitable.

1. The company you keep is a reflection on yourself.

When I was 14/15 I fell in with the 'wrong' crowd. Basically I started neglecting my school work, going out & getting drunk, skipping lessons that I didn't want to go to & basically not being true to myself. After an intervention (not quite but at that age everything dramatic!) from my parents & a teacher at school I realised that the people that I was spending time with just weren't the people I wanted to be associated with. So I removed myself from that group of 'friends' which lead to comments like 'She thinks she can just talk to us when she wants & be our friend when it suits her.'

I stood my ground and was thankfully welcomed back into the group of friends I foolishly dropped.

2. If you want something then you have to ask!

Up until about a year and a half ago I was pretty shy & had very low self esteem, I hated asking for things or asking people questions. Simply because I felt as though I was bothering them then I realised that if you don't ask, you don't get basically.

I, also, realised that yes, I may be bothering them but I have a question & it needs to be answered. Sometimes I do fall back into my old way of being afraid of asking because I am worried about being an annoyance but then I tell myself to just do it otherwise I could be in this pickle for a while.

3. Having a positive attitude makes a difference.

I am a pretty positive person - some may say a little too glass half full but that is how I am! Being positive & looking for the best in a situation makes everything a little easier. I find that by having a positive attitude everything just works much better. It also means that people approach you & remember you in a different way than if you are constantly negative and whinging about everything.

4. There is nothing wrong with not being stick thin.

I always thought that in order to be pretty I had to be super skinny. It probably has something to do with low self esteem & the fact that in my early teens I was a little over weight but I addressed the issue and because of that I introduced exercise into my lifestyle & now it is one of my favourite things to do - sad, I know.

Right now, I am the correct weight for my height, I have boobs, I have a bum, biggish thighs & broad shoulders & there is no way of loosing that. I am big boned. End of.

5. Dress the way you want to.

It could be argued this isn't a life lesson but I see it this way... the way you dress is an expression of who you are. Wearing what you want to wear shows that you are comfortable with who you are & are proud to show it. My friends aren't too keen on the making an effort with an outfit everyday, I like to wear clothes than may be seen as 'dressy' for daytime but I like to wear something that makes me feel & look like I have made the effort. I suppose it is the same as not changing your personality depending on who you are with.

Cups, Cups, Cups

I love dishes. Sad & weird, I know but I like what I like. These are actually my mumma cups but I lust after them every time she produces them.
They are flower designs, they are so detailed & dainty. They are from Laura Ashley about two or three years ago & are made from China.
The first cup in the three actually has little pollen 'dots' at the bottom of the cup which you can't really see in the picture but they add a nice little touch to the cup. Plus if you have had one too many & you are given a cuppa in them you can be led to think that they are little holes in the cup!
On another note, I was thinking of setting myself either monthly goals or 'New Year Resolutions' seen as I am starting a new academic year. What do you think would be better - a single monthly goal or a list of goals/resolutions I want to complete by the same time next year? I would appreciate some thoughts on la matter.

Getting to know you.

I saw this quiz on http://http//little-elfie.blogspot.com/, she said her view on herself was pretty accurate so I though I'd give it a bash.

I would say mine was pretty accurate too, it's weird actually how accurate some of the sections are...

Your view on yourself:

You are down-to-earth and people like you because you are so straightforward. You are an efficient problem solver because you will listen to both sides of an argument before making a decision that usually appeals to both parties.
The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:

You are a true romantic. When you are in love, you will do anything and everything to keep your love true.
Your readiness to commit to a relationship:

You are ready to commit as soon as you meet the right person. And you believe you will pretty much know as soon as you might that person.
The seriousness of your love:

Your have very sensible tactics when approaching the opposite sex. In many ways people find your straightforwardness attractive, so you will find yourself with plenty of dates.
Your views on education

Education is very important in life. You want to study hard and learn as much as you can.
The right job for you:

You have plenty of dream jobs but have little chance of doing any of them if you don't focus on something in particular. You need to choose something and go for it to be happy and achieve success.
How do you view success:

You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don't succeed. Don't give up when you haven't yet even started! Be courageous.
What are you most afraid of:

You are afraid of things that you cannot control. Sometimes you show your anger to cover up how you feel.
Who is your true self:

You are mature, reasonable, honest and give good advice. People ask for your comments on all sorts of different issues. Sometimes you might find yourself in a dilemma when trapped with a problem, which your heart rather than your head needs to solve.

You can do the quiz here, if you are interested.

Inside my box of mystery.

As you may or may not know in a couple of weeks time I am moving back to the east coast for uni. Last year I stayed in halls but this year I have a flat with three lovely ladies, I am really excited about it!
Partly, and mostly, because I will be living with three of my friends & will be back doing my thang on the east coast & partly because I get to do up my room.
The furniture in the room is just a bed, desk & small (!!) wardrobe with two drawers so I obviously need more storage.
I had in mind what I was looking for & TK Max did not disappoint.

These three hat boxes came to a grand total of £15.96! I'm not 100% sure what I am going to store in them yet but I will wait till I am moved in & unpacking to decide. They are three different sizes & I thought they would be pretty stacked up in the corner of my room or something.

Shoes are my drug.

If the Shoe Santa reads this, I would like both pairs in a seven. Thank you.

I want!! The first could be practical, maybe. The second pair I would probably fall on my face but I could wear them around the house, couldn't I?!

Those three words are said to much they're not enough

I got this top for my 20th birthday & have only worn it a handful of times. I like the print but was a little unsure how to wear it.

Top, vest, cardigan & bag ... Topshop

Shorts ... An Emma Creation

I have replaced blusher with bronzer, I actually like it & given up the old fake tan. Being pale isn't too bad after all.

Say hello to my new love

Ladies, I would like you to meet my new bag.

Purchased in the Oasis sale for half price. I am very pleased to say that it was love at first sight & we are still going strong.

Oasis sale is my favourite sale. Ever.

I lost my heart

Going out for lunch, feel poo & generally just grumpy. After a few outfit changes I setteled on this. Nothing exciting to be honest but it was comfy & did the job. My lovely new H&M ring bloody broke! It was a little too big (which it didn't seem in the shop with the stupid big tag on it) & it went flying off my finger & smashed on the tiled floor in my kitchen - rage! It was only £1.99 though...

Cardigan & vest .. Top of the shop

Scarf & deceased ring .. H&M

Jeans .. New Lookie-Look

Bag .. Primark

Costume is my Disguise.

The Dressing Room...

These were day & evening dress worn in Victorian times although they are not permitted for morning activities! How ludicrous to presume so...

On the left is the underwear worn at the time! A corset, pantaloons, a chemise & a huge gathered belt type thing (I'm sorry I can't for the life of me remember the name of this!) basically it made the ladies bottoms larger as this was the desired shape at the time - bring that back, that's all I can say! It was a lot of under wear.

The Bedroom...

1940s. War time Britian.

This shoes an older lady getting ready for a party with a young girl watching her.

The Study...

Victorian times. The family is dressed for a Hogmany (New year for the non-Scots :D) party.

The detail on the black dress isn't captured well at all as the room was very dark & flash was prohibited. The flowers on the dress were made up of sequins, it was so beautiful.

The Drawing Room...

1945. War time Britain.

I loved this dress. It could easily be worn these days, it was lovely.

The Dining Room...

This was set in late Victorian times. I don't want to say too much, I'd rather you all just enjoyed the photographs, the only thing I will say is the first picture below is off a lady & gentleman attending the dinner party. The lady was in mourning hence why she is dress in black, this process (yes, there was a mourning process!) was stage one or two of four (!!!) which would last about a year. The overall process took at least two and a half years!

There was also a bathroom and accessories room which had beautiful parasols, fans, evening bags and shoes init but sadly they didn't photograph well.

It was a really interesting visit which I enjoyed very much. I love history and am a regular at historical attractions, this was particularly intersting as history & fashion met. x

Going to the chapel & we're going to married.

Just to pre-warn you, this post will be a little on the picture heavy side!

My lovely mother & I took a trip down to the National Museum of Costume in Dumfries. For those that don't know, Dumfries is on the West coast of Scotland about two hours drive from Glasgow. So we piled ourselves in to her car me, the mother, Queen, The Kinks, The Stones & a bit of Rod-ders thrown in for good measures & we were off...

The dress three down from the left was beautiful. It had such gorgeous detail around the neck but the room was busy when I got a little closer so wasn't able to get a close enough photo. The dress to the right of that dress was also gorgeous. They all were to be honest!

I had read that there was an exhibition on of wedding dresses from movies & being the old romantic that I am, I was excited to see this. I wasn't disappointed.

This dress is from an adaptation of Mansfield Park which stared Billie Piper. Beside this was a dress that was used in the movie adaptation which was much less glamorous & as I learnt much for in fitting with the style of the time. Apparently, the waist on this dress is too low, it should be more of an empire cut & it wouldn't have been so glitzy. Gorgeous nonetheless!

dress on the left is from the Billie Piper adaptation & the dress on the right is from the movie adaptation.

The dress worn by Jennifer Ehle in the series of Pride & Prejudice was there - gots to love some Mr Darcy, what a fox! - as was dresses worn by Helena Carter Bohmen, Meryl Streep and the wedding dress worn by Keria Knightly in The Duchess.

This dress was stunning. It was so detailed and beautiful. The size of the skirt was insane! If I am being honest, I would love to have the chance to wear a dress like this just for an hour or so simply to see what it was like!

Not to overload all you gorgeous readers I am going to save the main exhibition for another post. x

Save some face, you know you've only got one

Little action shot there...

I bought this blouse/shirt from H&M after the mother pointed it out, I wasn't too sure about it as baggy things don't really suit me but I got it anyway & am really happy I did. This is just one way I though to wear, I have a few others up my sleeve.
It is really comfy & versatile so my mum gets a round of applause for spotting it in the wilderness of H&M.
I love this bag too. It was a Christmas present from the mother & father. It can be worn as a shoulder bag or you can take the strap off and have an over sized clutch.
Blouse.. H&M
Vest.. Topshop
Jeans.. New Look
Shoes (Not seen).. Wallis
Bag.. Topshop
Ring.. Vintage
